The joy of home libraries

I know I have mentioned built-ins and bookcases before but after looking at this month’s Elle Decor I am totally in love with the idea of a home library.

One of the feature stories in the issue was on literary agent Lynn Nesbit’s NYC home custom designed by a young interior design firm. I would imagine Nesbit would have quite the collection of books and her home library does not disappoint. Apparently the shelving, ladder and lamps were all custom made for her home! Since I was so inspired I decided to round up some of my favorite home libraries. Get ready to drool…

I love the idea of a library with it’s own ladder. I think the bright green curtains really bring life to the room, although I may be biased towards green curtains right now.

How amazing are these color coded shelves? I don’t think I have the patience to color code my books but it looks amazing!

This is such an elegant library. I think they did a great job mixing masculine (dark woods/colors) with feminine touches (the tufted ottoman and the flowers)

Another library with a ladder! *Swoon* Plus those chairs look like a great place to read.

If that’s not enough library goodness you can check out a preview of the September issue of Elle Decor here.
