It’s curtains!

Hurrah! I finally finished my bedroom curtains. It’s like a Christmas miracle a few months early. I had purchased fabric from Ikea a few months ago and I after a couple days of sewing and cutting my bedroom has new green and white drapes. I think I learned my lesson about measuring with the pillow situation so I was extra careful with these babies.

I hemmed all the edges at about 1/2″ and then I measured the top part of the curtains for the rod pocket at almost 4″ so if I ever changed curtain rods they would still work.

Before the pillow incident I hadn’t even used this sewing machine in probably four years so I was pretty impressed with how straight my stitch was.

Just look at that fine craftsmanship. Not too bad for just getting back in the sewing saddle.

So I kept on sewing. Trust me, it took longer than I thought for just a few straight stitches. It was five yards of fabric total so it took a lot of thread and a lot of pinning and I didn’t stick myself with a straight pin once!

Mostly I wanted to post this picture to show off my cool ring. Thanks Target!

I’d say it took me about 4-6 hours total but I did have a fair amount of hangups, namely the fact that my automatic bobbin winder broke so I had to wind my own. What a pain. I also stopped a few times to give my fingers (and eyes) a break.

Read to see the finished product? I thought so. Drumroll please….

Ta da!

I know it’s not the best photo and lighting but trust me, I will post more pictures when the whole room is finished. I can’t wait to change that ugly tan paint color to a nice medium grey. I think that will really help the room, right now the bright green looks super weird against a warm tan.

A close up of the rod pocket in case you’re curious.

So one step down and like a million more to go. I can’t wait until this master re-do is done! Soon. Very soon.

  1. These look fabulous! I was just looking through the new Ikea Catalog last night and drooling over some of their new fabrics. I think it might be time for another expedition!

Thank you! I know it’s odd to see vertical stripes but I think it’s kinda cool. I plan to have a few other patterns in the room though so it won’t look too much like a beachy stripe.

  2. I love the color of the green — perfect kelly green in my opinion!

  3. Great work on the curtains! I could never do stitching like that in a million years! What’s crazy is my grandfather was a master sewer. I’d like to re-do the curtains in my room. I have ugly white floral curtains now (covered with dust) and would like to replace them with a dark-blue color.
